Business

Do you have what it takes to be
a successful Exporter?

Are you ready to take your established business to the next level? Looking for ways to diversify and increase profits? Have you considered exporting? In addition to increasing sales, you’ll protect your business against economic downturns in your local market. You can also extend your product’s life – items that are technologically outdated in Canada may be ideal for a developing country – and gain experience and knowledge that may lead to further business opportunities.

What does it take to be a successful exporter? Although there are exceptions, successful exporters generally have a solid, established business in Canada. Reliable production systems, a good reputation for supplying quality merchandise, and products that are in demand internationally are also keys to success.

To assess your company’s readiness and export potential, try completing Small Business B.C.'s "Assessing Your Company's Export Potential" questionnaire. It'll tell you whether your company is ready to be an exporter and highlight areas of your business where additional work and preparation may be needed.

Tourism

New changes to the team at the Visitors Information Centre (VIC).

Sonya Konig (centre) has recently joined as Director, Visitor Services together with Arta Selby (right) and Beverly Pearce (left) as Counsellors. With extensive experience and a solid background in the tourism industry we are looking forward to assisting you and our visiting tourists.

Colleen Sito, a media representative from Western Canadian Resorts publication out of Calgary, visited our town on July 23rd & 24th. We were very fortunate to have her spend two days experiencing our community. We toured her around 15 resort/destination properties and tourist attractions. Colleen was very impressed with what she experienced and said “next time she’ll be back to vacation!” We look forward to seeing the next article in Resorts and other publications.

Expect more media to be visiting our town over the next few months.

Accommodation Vacancy Board.

During the high season our team is actively working with all the accommodators to better serve our tourists visiting the community. On a weekly basis we obtain the availability status for the upcoming week, from the information we receive we update our visitors as well as the nightly vacancy board which is posted in the window overnight. This has been in effect for a couple of weeks already and so far have received extremely positive feedback from both our accommodators and tourists.
