Snowbirds – Home for the winter

They to come to Osoyoos to escape the colder weather from all points east: Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba -- and even Nova Scotia and PEI -- every November to March. They’re affectionately known as Snowbirds, and they have at least one thing in common: they LOVE Osoyoos! More than 400 Snowbirds call Osoyoos home every winter, and they are warmly welcomed by our community every year.

Frequent social events and activities offered in Osoyoos ensure the snowbirds always have something to do and a community of people to do them with.   Favourite daily activities include bingo, bridge, cribbage, potlucks and afternoon dances.  Other popular activities include attending hockey games, curling, golf, tennis, squash, badminton, pickleball, bowling, archery, fishing, attending concerts and wine touring.  Snowbirds enjoy shopping at our local shops and taking trips across the border (which Osoyoos sits right on) to visit American stores.

Osoyoos has become a popular alternative to going to Arizona for the winter.  Many Canadians would rather stay in Canada where they are able to walk into any hospital or clinic to get treatment without spending large amounts of money on health insurance.

Affordable monthly rates make spending the winter in Osoyoos possible on any budget.  For the full listing of monthly winter rates, please email admin@destinationosoyoos.com or call 250-495-5070 (ext 201).

“We appreciate the warm welcome we always get when we come to Osoyoos. We find that the people are very friendly, and we really appreciate the at-home feeling we get when we stay.  Osoyoos is a small community, like the community where we come from, and that small town hospitality is what makes us feel comfortable and happy here.”

“There is so much to see, and so much to do in Osoyoos. It is truly a unique destination in Canada, and as proud Canadians, we look forward to many more visits in the years to come. Thank you, Osoyoos, for the warm welcomes!”

- Doreen Megaffin from Boissevain, Manitoba, who together with her husband Al, have been coming to Osoyoos for the past four winters
