As a "grassroots" organization with dedicated people from the community, Destination Osoyoos Development Society is committed to strengthening the economic as well as the physical, social, and cultural conditions of the Osoyoos Area. The organization is driven by a Community Economic Development Strategy that is designed to reflect the wishes and aspirations of the citizens of the Osoyoos Area through an extensive community consultation process.

The Society's Board of directors is comprised of twenty individuals from a wide range of interests such as agriculture, industry, commercial, tourism, recreation, institutional, environmental, and the retirement community. Two Town of Osoyoos Council Members and the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen Area 'A' Director also sit on the Society's Board as liasons.

 Destination Osoyoos is dedicated to:

(1) Encouraging economic development that is appropriate to the Osoyoos Area which provides employment and investment opportunities, maintains the quality of life of the environment that Osoyoos area residents enjoy and respects the principles of sustainable development.

(2) Taking advantage of the Osoyoos area's strengths, including its strategic location, diverse economy, and unique environment.

(3) Encouraging a wide range of education, employment, investment
and lifestyle opportunities for all the members of the community.

(4) Focusing on investments that will support enhanced economic values and well-being in the community.

   Destination Osoyoos core activities include:
    • Operating and managing the Osoyoos Visitor Information Centre to greet and assist visitors to the community
    • Providing a basic level of visitor information by maintaining an inventory of current publications - Provincial, Regional, and Community information
    • Providing general and detailed information on attractions and visitor services
    • Satisfy visitor needs or interests to encourage longer stays
    • Motivating visitors to spend money and make return visits
    • Promoting local attractions and events which motivate visitors to stay longer
    • Collecting visitor data to determine who visitors are, their origin, their destination, their activities, their length of stay, and their needs
    • Promoting the community throughout the region through the Provincial Visitor InfoNetwork members
    • Promoting the community to its market through the Regional Destination Marketing Organizations

   Our Economic Development strategies include:

    • Offering preliminary counseling services to new business
    • Providing information to potential investors and helping match investors with local investment opportunities
    • Conducting specific studies and research projects to enhance local industry and community development as required
    • Participating in external and regional marketing initiatives to attract new business ventures and capital to the Osoyoos Area
    • Fostering strategic economic development planning for the Osoyoos Area
    • Providing a referral service to Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Officials and Community Organizations
    • Initiating community projects that enhance existing industry and the community in general
    • Maintaining an Community Economic Profile of the Osoyoos Area
    • Providing technical support to local community groups and organizations that are undertaking community economic development projects
    • Assisting established businesses in expansion and/or relocation
    • Educating the community about opportunities for new business
    • Collecting and maintaining a database of all local companies, their employee base, and types of products produced
    • Providing internet access through the Community Access Program and local information through this web page
    • Offering a One-Stop Business registration centre, maintaining a business library, and providing a Regional access and Commmunity Help (REACH) Program
    • Providing a complete Job Search office for the region involving the Job Bank Computer System and Student Employment Centre, and the local Job Board

  Destination Osoyoos' Tourism Services include:

    • Co-ordinating and providing leadership of Osoyoos' tourism activities associated with development, marketing, promotion, information provision, planning, and research
    • Developing and implementing a long-term tourism development vision
    • Developing and implementing tourism development and marketing strategies
    • Maintaining performance measurements and analysis of visitor services, including inquiry fulfillment, local consulting with travelers and operators, and information distribution
    • Maintaining a membership with the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association'
    • Participating in the Desert Wine Country Tourism Campaign
    • Attending conferences related to tourism
    • Applying for government programs, licensing, and financial assistance related to tourism in the town of Osoyoos
    • Developing tourism information products
    • Organizing Familiarization Tours
    • Attracting new tourism capital investment and partners
    • Coordinating local tourism signage programs
    • Pursuing the long-term goal of a new building for Tourism Services
