Employee Satisfaction Directly Linked to Performance

Al direct link exists between employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction and a company's financial performance, even if the employees have no direct contact with customers.

Those findings are part of a study, The Impact of Employee Attitudes on Market Response and Financial Performance, from the Forum for People Performance Management and Measurement at Northwestern University.

Results of the study suggest that influencing customer behavior goes beyond advertising, beyond delivering on a brand's promise, beyond customer service and beyond product research and development to maximizing employee engagement and satisfaction.

"The implications of this research are enormous in terms of how marketing, sales and communications budgets are determined," said Francis J. Mulhern, Ph.D., associate dean and chair of Northwestern University's graduate program in Integrated Marketing Communications. "The study supports the idea that internal marketing and communications, directly addressing all levels of employees and their job requirements, needs to be implemented as rigorously as external marketing and sales programs."

The study found that:

There is a direct link between employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction, and between customer satisfaction and improved financial performance.

The key characteristic for explaining employee satisfaction is organizational communication, downward and upward.

Employee satisfaction is a key antecedent to employee engagement. Interaction between managers and employees with regards to supportiveness and goal setting, as well as job design were also key drivers of employee engagement.

When individuals and teams are competing to implement the optimal behaviors oriented to the market and its customers, such competition can work to the advantage of both the organization and its customers.

Organizational culture was another significant driver of employee engagement, where employees must be expected to cooperate and work together, but also to take charge and provide a voice for the customer within the organization.

Organizations with engaged employees have customers who use their products more, and increased customer usage leads to higher levels of customer satisfaction.

It is an organization's employees who influence the behavior and attitudes of customers, and it is customers who drive an organization's profitability through the purchase and use of its products.

 GUIDELINES FOR DISPLAY

FRAMED PAINTINGS:

Works must be suitably mounted for hanging; framing must be of Gallery quality.

  • Oils and acrylics must be framed:

A neutral spacer between the painting and its frame is recommended, but not mandatory (e.g. white canvas line)

  • Watercolours and pastels must be matted and framed under clean glass

Use acid-free, clean and unmarked mats. Neutral mats suggested (not required)

Spacers for pastels are recommended

  • Corners of frames should meet (no gaps)
  • Frames should not be scratched, gouged or chipped
  • Hanging wire is metal and should not show above the top of the frame
  • The hanging wire should be attached not more than 1/3 from the top of the frame

Ideally: the hanging wire should be attached 4 ½” from the top edge of the frame (no matter the size of the painting)

The wire should be pulled taut across the painting to make it hang closer to the wall.

  • Wood frames should have a dust cover backing (e.g. brown paper) glued to the edges of the frame and should be smooth.
  • Place bumpers on the bottom corners of the frame to prevent marking the walls
  • No clip framing or saw tooth hangers

POTTERY/SCULPTURE

  • Bottom should be smoothly finished – no sharp edges
  • Item should be able to stand on its own or be adequately equipped for hanging
JEWELLERY
  • All findings and finishing should be professional looking
  • No sharp edges that will catch on or prick customers’ fingers

CARDS

  • Should be clean and presented in plastic envelopes. Do not use saran wrap
  • Preference is that the plastic envelope is sealed (prevents soiling from handling)
  • If the card has a “greeting” inside, it need not have the plastic covering sealed
  • Cards are the only exception to “original art work only”. Cards may be prints as well as originals

PRINTS

  • Wall hung prints must be traditional print work only (e.g. wood cuts, lithographs) and must be the original
  • Unframed prints/limited edition prints of paintings can be from a printer’s press

No laser copies or photocopies of paintings or print work accepted

UNFRAMED PAINTINGS/PRINTS should be shrink-wrapped. Do not use saran wrap.
