Destination Osoyoos

Agri-Food & Wine

The agri-food and wine industries, inclusive of food and beverage processing, are a mainstay of the Osoyoos economy and form a significant component of the community’s overall brand identity. The climate and environmental conditions of the area facilitate a robust and very successful agricultural base. Most businesses within this sector in the South Okanagan are engaged in vineyard/winery production, although there are a number of small-scale specialty food processors in the area.

Major site location factors for food companies are access to customers, access to supplies, access to the labour market, access to industrial land and building space, and access to reasonable business costs. Recent studies have shown that BC food processors remain competitive, and the South Okanagan, and Osoyoos in particular, have many strengths that will appeal to the food and wine industries.

Furthering the focus of the agri-food and wine industries in the Osoyoos area is the broadening of the tourism product offering in the area to include niche, yet rapidly growing, markets in agri-tourism, culinary experiences, and wine tourism.
