Wine & Wine Tours

Like the Napa Valley in California, Bordeaux in France, or Italy’s Chianti region in Tuscany, grape growing and wine production in the Osoyoos region is both a business and a way of life. It defines the character and lifestyle for those of us lucky enough to live along the vineyards positioned along the rolling desert hills. And it’s a lifestyle in which you can indulge no matter how long the stay.
The major wineries are well advertised and they are easy to spot. But you can also enjoy some of the smaller wineries, sometimes having to travel off the main highways to reach them. But, even if you choose not to imbibe, several wineries have superb restaurants where you can sample foods grown and raised nearby and our local farmers supply restaurants throughout the region with the freshest of home grown products.

Most of our wineries are VQA rated (Vintners Quality Alliance), meaning that they have passed the rigid quality standards set by the alliance of Okanagan vineyards and that the wines are made from 100 per cent BC grown grapes. And our wines have won many prestigious awards for wines produced from the many grape varieties grown in our area. In fact, the Osoyoos region produces most of the grapes grown in the Okanagan Valley.

The numerous microclimates and soil variations make it possible to cultivate some 60 different types of grapes within a small area. So you’ll find wineries producing an assortment of varietal wines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and our unique Ice Wine, among others.

Local in Osoyoos are La Stella, Nk’ Mip Cellars, Adega on 45th, Moon Curser and Young & Wyse wineries. And they’re easy to find. Just ask for one of our winery maps or take a wine tour with one of several tour companies that offer exceptional visits to the wineries in our area.
