Orofino is a family-run winery producing small lots of award-winning wines. Their winery was built using unique eco-friendly, straw-bale construction techniques. Visit their solar-powered tasting room to sample their wines, browse their unique culinary products and have a glass of wine in the picnic area surrounded by vines and almond trees!

JOHN AND VIRGINIA WEBER both grew up in Southern Saskatchewan. Virginia worked as a nurse and John taught High School. Life settled and things were good until they met the Similkameen Valley in 2001.
The desire to try something new, their love of wine and the beauty of the Similkameen convinced them to purchase a vineyard and move from Saskatchewan to Cawston. They quickly fell in love with the area and its burgeoning wine industry.
Virginia and John have two sons Jack and Nate. They share their house with a ridiculously adorable Havanese dog named Poppy and an enigmatic cat named Rosie, who all look forward to welcoming you to Orofino!

No one knows the Similkameen Appellation like Orofino does. We have over 19 years of experience with making wines in the Similkameen and have made wine from all of the distinct and unique microterroirs throughout the valley. We have an intimate relationship with each of our distinct sub-regions here in the Valley; from the hot hot heat of the bench vineyards, to the heavy-soiled bottomland sites, to the coolness of the high  elevation Olalla Gap. This constant exploration of each corner has been the best education. The knowledge gained helps us craft wines that celebrate these extraordinary vineyards. Exploration of our valley and creating wines of place have been the heartbeat of Orofino from the beginning.

The conception of our winery began in the spring of 2003. After months of researching and debating alternatives, the decision was made to build Canada’s first strawbale winery, in the Similkameen Valley. Building design incorporated function and eye-pleasing detail.

Orofino Vineyard Suites are perched on the second floor of our barrel room and are designed to maximize the incomparable views with a wall of windows overlooking the Similkameen Valley. Each suite features 1000 square feet of bright and airy living space, a fully modern kitchen, a 250 square foot private deck with panoramic views, complimentary wi-fi and all the amenities of a proper wine country vacation property. Expect to find a luxurious living space that allows you a place to stop and enjoy the Similkameen Valley and all it has to offer.

Enjoy a fun & informative seated tasting in our beautiful outdoor courtyard overlooking our vineyard and Orofino mountain. This 30 minute fully guided tasting includes 5 wines of your choosing, with the option for 1 of those wines to be a specially selected library wine from our cellar!

  • $10 non-refundable tasting fee per person with a portion being donated to the South Okanagan Women In Need Society
  • Club members – to receive complimentary tastings, please book using the email address associated with your account. Two complimentary tastings per member
  • Tastings are available for groups of 1 – 6 but please note that we have limited tastings per day for groups of 6
